What is Inland Marine Insurance?

Inland Marine (Equipment)

An Inland Marine policy provides additional coverage for Business Personal Property beyond the limits of the property policy. It covers property or equipment in transit and used away from the primary office location. Many inland marine policies provide coverage without regard to the location of the covered property; which is why they can sometimes be referred to as “floater” policies.

Surveying Equipment

Surveying equipment is often used away from the scheduled location. Due to the cost of surveying equipment, replacement after a covered loss may exceed the policy limits of the property policy for property away from the scheduled location. The Inland Marine policy would provide additional coverage for the replacement cost of the lost or damaged surveying equipment.

Scheduled Equipment & Survey Basis

Coverage is only provided up to a certain limit, so it is important to have the correct values assigned to your equipment used in the field. Coverage can be provided on both a:

  • “Scheduled Equipment” basis – coverage only for equipment itemized on a list
  • “Blanket” basis – coverage for any equipment used in the course of business up to the limit of the policy
